JUNO’s History

The original JUNO bed hails back to 1942, and was discontinued 30 years ago. Quite many still exist, either in use or on attics and in basements. Many of these are being taken good care of, and are in an excellent condition, but the passage of time invariably means that well-kept beds are becoming fewer and farther in between.
If one looks at the second-hand sale ads, prices between 2-3000 Danish Crowns are not uncommon, with some reconditioned beds even pricier.

I myself came into contact with the JUNO bed when I got the idea of starting up a business with second-hand, but neat and refurbished baby items.
The business opened in 1989 and became a great success. One day a family came by and sold their second hand items to me, among them an older JUNO bed. I completely fell in love with the design, and as my one and a half year old daughter had begun leaving her coracle, I refurbished the old JUNO bed.
The JUNO bed was in use until my daughter was 6 years old, after which it was sold on to a new family who, like me, were very happy with the style and spirit which the JUNO bed embodies. And this was not a singular incident. JUNO was, and is, very popular. As soon as I got a JUNO bed into the shop, it was sold.

This gave me the idea of making an entirely new JUNO bed. This was to be far harder than I anticipated however, because the new bed naturally had to be better and much safer than the old one, but at the same time retain the old charm, style and spirit.
In cooperation with the Danish Technological Institute, I went over the old bed following the toughest rules for children’s beds in the EU, but the old bed unfortunately could not in any way live up to the many demands of resisting breakage, height of the bars, edges, spaces and much, much more. Read the official test-report for the new JUNO bed.
Many attempts were made, many ideas were rejected, and several prototypes were produced before the new JUNO Baby- and Children’s bed finally took shape, so that safety, quality and function were all in order, and the new JUNO bed was true to its predecessor.

It had taken 4 years to get that far, but finally, on the 15th of May 2004 on the Baby forum in the "Øksnehallen" hall in Copenhagen, the new JUNO bed had its premiere in Denmark, and was shown publicly for the first time.
I was very tense, but the audience received the bed exactly as I had hoped they would. Everyone could instantly recognize the JUNO bed, and everyone thought that I had succeeded in retaining both the charm and versatility from the old model.

It is still a true JUNO bed. The rounded shapes and the sturdy finish emit comfort and warmth. The bars in the side have been replaced by artificial glass with pictures of farmyard animals, which the child can easily see through. This makes the bed open while at the same time affording an elegant lightness.

I do hope the new JUNO Baby- and Children’s bed will be as well-loved as the old one, and that it will be greatly enjoyed for the next 60 years...
